Levi Edgecombe and Don Coplin formed Edgecombe & Coplin Wealth Strategies, LLC in December 2000, so they could combine their strengths to better serve clients. Levi earned his Certified Financial PlannerTM(CFP®) designation and has also received his Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC®) and Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU®) designations from The American College. He’s concentrated his professional development in the areas of financial estate, business, and retirement planning for both individuals and closely held companies.
Levi B. Edgecombe began his career in 1971 with Equitable of Iowa following two years as a youth director at First Presbyterian Church in Tacoma, Washington. He has been involved in the financial services industry since that time as a financial representative at Commonwealth Financial Network, Lincoln Financial Advisors, Massachusetts Mutual, and Northwestern Mutual.
Levi and Don were featured in Proactive Advisor Magazine as the cover story “Teamwork Multiplies Success” (March 17, 2016) and “The Power of Co-Op Radio Advertising” (April 14, 2016). He conducts monthly seminars on financial topics and is an occasional guest on the USA Financial Radio Show on Saturdays from 9-10 a.m., KLAY AM 1180 Talk Radio. Levi's knowledge and experience has been featured as a contributing author in the book You're in Control: Planning the Most Important Retirement in the World - Yours.
Levi is a graduate of Wheaton College with a B.A. in Literature. He is the past president of the Tacoma SW chapter of the Society of Financial Service Professionals. He has been the featured speaker several times for the Tacoma and Olympia Estate Planning Councils and been a LUTCF instructor for Advanced Estate Planning. In 2008, Levi was a featured speaker at the Commonwealth Financial Network National Wealth Symposium.
Levi and his wife, Denise, married in 1981 and have resided in Puyallup, Washington, since 1982. Their daughter, Whitney, has completed her master’s degree at Loyola University. She and her husband, Dan and daugher Corinne, live near Chicago, Illinois. Their son, Jesse, graduated from the University of Washington. Levi has been involved with Young Life and has been an elder at Crossroads, his church for over 25 years.
Michael B. Smolko is an Associate Advisor at Edgecombe & Coplin Wealth Strategies, LLC, and has been with the firm since 2013. He focuses on helping clients with financial planning and also has experience working with those in the teaching profession. Before he joined the firm, he was impressed for many years with the level of professionalism and financial care that Don and Levi had given his parents.
Mike began his career in 1998 working in higher education administration as a student leadership advisor at George Fox University. He enjoyed teaching students about the advantages and disadvantages of their student loans and helped them simplify an often complex and scary process. He realized he could transfer this same knowledge to clients in the financial field, help them with their financial planning and retirement goals, and make sense for them of another complicated topic.
Earlier in Mike’s career, he was a service representative at Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. and a resident director at Pacific Lutheran University. He has an MBA from Pacific Lutheran University, a BA in psychology from George Fox University, and an MA in education from Alfred University with an emphasis in College Student Development. He has completed courses that make him knowledgeable in employee and group benefits, which gives him the experience to provide perspectives for business owners who may need help with retirement planning.
Mike often speaks at retirement seminars and other financial seminars for local school districts. He has served as a board member of his Rotary Club, has earned his Competent Communicator from Toastmasters International, has served as PTA president at his children’s school and is president of his HOA.
Mike is happily married to Lindsay and has a son and daughter. He loves to spend time with his family, coach his kids’ sports teams, and enjoys trips to Disneyland, the Smolko family’s favorite place! Mike is an avid reader of fiction and loves a great story. On a weekend, if he is not partaking in the latest summer blockbuster, he might be found at his BBQ prepping a meal for his family and close friends.
Christy joined the firm in January 2017 as an administrative assistant. She recently retired from Russell Investments after 25 years as a Senior Client Service Associate in the Alternatives division of the Global Operations group. She has extensive experience in back-office operations including establishing procedures, processing workflows, managing cash flows, compliance, and client communications.
Christy’s current duties include general office work, client service, processing investment applications, creating processes, developing an electronic filing system, organizing Social Security seminars, and updating the firm’s social media exposure. Initially a client of Edgecombe & Coplin, Christy really enjoys working in a smaller firm that provides the opportunity to work one-on-one with clients. She often refers to her position as her “fun retirement job.”
Christy enjoys traveling (her favorite spot is Kahana, Maui), quilting, watching her grandkids play football and basketball (go Rogers Rams!), and is an avid Seattle Seahawks fan. A long-time season ticket-holder, Christy attends all the home games and at least one away game every year. She is a member of the South Sound Seahawkers booster club and has participated in many of their charitable events. Additionally, she and her family have been heavily involved in the Relay for Life where over the past 9 years, her team alone has raised over $100,000 for the American Cancer Society.
Christy had been married to her late husband, Bob, for over 27 years. Between them they had 4 children, 7 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. She is currently transitioning into a smaller home and loves caring for her aging golden retriever, Jamie.
