Michael B. Smolko is an Associate Advisor at Edgecombe & Coplin Wealth Strategies, LLC, and has been with the firm since 2013. He focuses on helping clients with financial planning and also has experience working with those in the teaching profession. Before he joined the firm, he was impressed for many years with the level of professionalism and financial care that Don and Levi had given his parents.

Mike began his career in 1998 working in higher education administration as a student leadership advisor at George Fox University. He enjoyed teaching students about the advantages and disadvantages of their student loans and helped them simplify an often complex and scary process. He realized he could transfer this same knowledge to clients in the financial field, help them with their financial planning and retirement goals, and make sense for them of another complicated topic.

Earlier in Mike’s career, he was a service representative at Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. and a resident director at Pacific Lutheran University. He has an MBA from Pacific Lutheran University, a BA in psychology from George Fox University, and an MA in education from Alfred University with an emphasis in College Student Development. He has completed courses that make him knowledgeable in employee and group benefits, which gives him the experience to provide perspectives for business owners who may need help with retirement planning.

Mike often speaks at retirement seminars and other financial seminars for local school districts. He has served as a board member of his Rotary Club and has earned his Competent Communicator from Toastmasters International. Mike also fits in time as PTA president at his children’s school and is president of his HOA.

Mike is happily married to Lindsay and has a son and daughter. He loves to spend time with his family, coach his kids’ sports teams, and enjoy trips to Disneyland, the Smolko family’s favorite place! Mike is an avid reader of fiction and loves a great story. On a weekend, if he is not partaking in the latest summer blockbuster, he might be found at his BBQ prepping a meal for his family and close friends.

Andrew-b-coplin.jpgAndrew (Drew) B. Coplin began his career in finance in 2014 when he began working as an agent for New York Life. He joined his father’s firm in 2016 to carry on the tradition of helping clients in planning for their retirement.

Drew is passionate about finances and helping people. He knows it’s important to share his knowledge with others, and he wants to help educate on how to correctly plan for retirement, because clients work so hard for their money for many years. He creates comprehensive financial plans based on each client’s personal situation and goals, and discusses ways one could work toward protecting their retirement nest egg during their lifetime or how to provide for their loved ones after they are gone.

Before Drew got into finance, he received a scholarship to play football at Evangel University (Springfield, MO) where he also graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business management. After college, he played professional football in England for a year. When he returned, he continued to play indoor football for the New Mexico Wildcats, Yakima Valley Warriors, and the Kent/Seattle Predators from 2009-2011.

Drew is married to his wife, Krista, and they have a Yorkiepoo named Zara. Prior to their move to Washington, Krista was a performer and trick rider at Dixie Stampede in Branson, Missouri. In Drew’s spare time, he enjoys the outdoors, snowboarding, skiing, mountain biking, all types of sports, woodworking, traveling, and spending time with family.

She recently retired from Russell Investments after 25 years as a Senior Client Service Associate in the Alternatives division of the Global Operations group. She has extensive experience in back-office operations including establishing procedures, processing workflows, managing cash flows, compliance, and client communications.

Christy’s current duties include general office work, client service, processing investment applications, creating processes, developing an electronic filing system, organizing Social Security seminars, and updating the firm’s social media exposure.  Initially a client of Edgecombe & Coplin, Christy really enjoys working in a smaller firm that provides the opportunity to work one-on-one with clients.  She often refers to her position as her “fun retirement job.”

A long-time season ticket-holder, Christy attends all the home games and at least one away game every year. She is a member of the South Sound Seahawkers booster club and has participated in many of their charitable events.  Additionally, she and her family have been heavily involved in the Relay for Life where over the past 9 years, her team alone has raised over $100,000 for the American Cancer Society.

Christy had been married to her late husband, Bob, for over 27 years. Between them they had 4 children, 7 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. She is currently transitioning into a smaller home and loves caring for her aging golden retriever, Jamie.
